An Early Spring Course of Workshops in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute
Four Friday afternoons to explore your creativity here on The Isle of Bute. Discover the spontaneous and expressive world of monotype printmaking in this immersive series of monotype workshops, held in my lovely garden studio in Rothesay. This unique printing media—often described as "painting with ink"—produces one-of-a-kind prints that combine the directness of painting with the distinctive qualities of printmaking.
-
Over the course of four Fridays, you'll learn various monotype approaches using just three colours:
Day 1 - Reductive (removing ink from the plate) and additive techniques (ways of adding ink to the plate)
Day 2 - Printing in layers of ink
Day 3 - Using paper and found materials as masks
Day 4 - Creative Experimentation: Explore the previous weeks techniques in greater depth
-
Spaces are limited to a maximum of 3-4 participants
You can expect to receive individual guidance and tailored instruction to suit your skill level and creative goals.
-
Idyllic Location: Immerse yourself in the serene atmosphere of my garden studio, located on the picturesque Isle of Bute, Rothesay. A perfect setting for creative exploration.
Beginner-Friendly: No prior printmaking experience is necessary. This workshop is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for all.
Fresh Perspective: Experienced printmakers will find new ways to approach monotype, expanding their artistic repertoire.
Small Group Setting: Enjoy personalised attention and a supportive learning environment.
-
This course celebrates the journey rather than the destination. You'll be encouraged to:
Experiment freely with accessible, everyday materials
Discover unexpected textures and patterns as I shar e with you various ways of inking up a plate
Develop intuitive responses to materials and processes
Build technical confidence through playful exploration
Release expectations and embrace happy accidents
No pressure to create "finished" artwork—instead, focus on building a personal vocabulary of textures, marks, and techniques that can inform your future creative practice. This approach creates a relaxed environment where true discovery can happen.
